Michael Katz
The Hon. Michael Katz is a judge of the New York County Supreme Court.
Trellis Law indicates Katz was designated to the Supreme Court bench in 2015 by the Hon. A. Gail Prudenti, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. His judicial career began in 2011 when he was first elected to serve as a judge for the New York County Civil Court. After the election, Katz was then designated to serve as a judge for the Kings County Family Court later that same year.
Katz received his B.A. from Brandeis University in 1989. He went on to earn a J.D. from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1992.
Prior to his election to the bench, Katz spent the bulk of his legal career working as a principal law clerk and court attorney to the Hon. Barbara R. Kapnick. He first served as a court attorney for Justice Kapnick during her tenure on the New York County Civil Court and later as her principal law clerk upon her elevation to the Supreme Court in New York County. Katz was serving in this capacity at the time of his election to the New York County Civil Court.
Katz’ committee memberships have included the New York City Bar Association’s Tort Litigation Committee, the Law Secretaries and Law Assistants Collegium Executive Committee, and the Anti-Bias Committee of the Supreme Court in New York County. He was a delegate and member of the Network of Bar Leaders Executive Council and a member of the New York City Bar Association’s Council on Judicial Administration. Katz has also served as a past president and member of the board of directors of the Jewish Lawyers Guild.
