New Judges and Shifts in New York City Divorce Courts
Recent restructuring in January 2025 within Manhattan Supreme Court has reshaped its matrimonial parts, impacting divorce and family law proceedings. Currently, there are six matrimonial judges:
The restructuring also saw three previous matrimonial judges be reassigned:
Hon. Ariel Chesler to city and transit matters
Hon. Ta-Tanisa James to guardianship matters
Hon. Kathleen Waterman Marshall to general trial matters
Capitti primarily assumed cases from Waterman Marshall. Headley assumed many cases from Chesler while Johnson assumed most of James’ case load. Pearlman assumed many cases from Hoffman, and Tingling assumed cases from both Chesler and Waterman Marshall.
